Ecological Footprint

World Wildlife Fund Canada
The WWF Canada is an affiliated branch of WWF International. A global leader in the interest of conservation, the WWF Canada has forged meaningful partnerships with government, business, labour, Aboriginal interests, scientists, and other non-government organizations in the hope that through transparency, education, and “advocacy with excellence,” people will be encouraged to be positive agents of environmental change. This comprehensive website is updated daily, apprising the public of important, current issues to do with conservation and environmental awareness. A blog is provided to provoke dialogue for readers, as well as a “Take Action” component providing strategies and programs for the general public to take part in, or implement. on their own.

One such program is the Green Community Program that provides grants to schools who look to provide examples of environmental awareness and leadership within their community. Most notably and locally, Chemanius Elementary School received funding for their school/community garden. This is one example of the inspiration that the WWF is instilling in the communities of Canada. Another example is the “Schools for a Living Planet,” where teachers are encouraged to bring the power of the environment into the classroom utilizing the free activities and lessons provided. All components of WWF extol the values of lowering ones ecological footprint, referring to the Rees and Wakernagel resource in more than fifty instances. This site is perfect for people looking to lower their ecological footprint, as it provides up-to-date news on environmental issues, strategies for changing lifestyle, and tools to teach and encourage youth.
